Amravati, means 'abode of immortals',
is one of the most populous metropolitan areas in Maharashtra. It is
said that Amravati is named for
its ancient Ambadevi temple. The city is well-known for its extreme
climates. Amravati has a well-established cotton mills industry. It
has also emerged as a major educational center with various
engineering and technical institutes in and around the city.

Besides cotton mills, the city also
rules with its prosperous IT industry. The major business comes from
all-in-ones, laptops and desktops, out of which all-in-ones are the
most demanding products among consumers. Mostly, customers like to
purchase only top-branded products from HP, Compaq, Lenovo and Dell.
“The market usually sells around 500 desktops and 600 laptops on a
monthly basis,” said Mohinder Singh of Genuine Computers. Nowadays,
consumer preferences are migrating towards printers. “The HP
ePrint-enabled printers are the new entrants in the market, besides
HP Dream Screen desktops,” explained Dipesh Doshi from Ratnam
Enterprises. The primary business verticals in the city are SOHO,
corporate, SME and education, that drive major sales of IT products
in the city. The IT industry in the city, however,
has seen a slowdown in the past few months, especially in the months
of January, February and March due to which dealers are not getting
good business. “The slowdown of business in these three months is
just because of three reasons. First, we had just finished our
exhibition in Jan-Feb due to which all our concentration was focused
on the event. Then followed by the government rate contract and exam
period in March,” said Sachin Palsoker of Sandal Enterprises.

The city also has Amravati Computer
Dealers Association (ACDA), which is 100 percent efficient in
addressing dealers' issues. It organizes various activities and
events for channel partners, like PC Utsav, IT events, training
seminars and channel meets. When it comes to dealer-vendor
relationship, some dealers have service issues with Lenovo, Acer and
Dell. While some other dealers want schemes introduced by vendors to
have a long validity period. “We want to have ethical and fair
dealing with our vendors,” added Doshi.
