AmitySoft, the Chennai based software company, in association with Software Measurement services (SMS), UK delivered software size estimation for e-commerce applications, during the one day COSMIC FFP tutorial held at Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad on December 11, 13 and 15 respectively.
COSMIC FFP is the latest technique for measuring software size applications and is the outcome of the common Software Measurement International Consortium. This latest technique improves the quality software development and represents the software size in quantitative way irrespective of the programming language and implementation.
Charles Symons, Joint Project Leader, COSMIC and Director of Software Measurement Services, UK presented the principles of the COSMIC FFP v.2 and discussed case studies on e-commerce and real time applications.
K.R. Jayakumar, CEO, AmitySoft Technologies Pvt Ltd said, "Industry has to be on the formal maturity path in the development process, hence, the need for best practices in the areas of development is essential in software estimation. The COSMIC FFP is sure to break new grounds, as far as software size estimation is concerned and we are confident that Indian software
industry will benefit immensely by this latest technique."
Some of the existing popular methods of Software Sizing are Line of Code or Kilo Line of Code (KLOC) and function points have quite a few limitations. However, these techniques were not successful in developing E-commerce application and the client server applications.
The COSMIC FFP, which has been successfully tested in many countries is applicable to e-commerce, telecommunications, operating systems, embedded systems, confirms to the ISO standards and overcomes most of the limitations of the existing techniques in terms of accuracy, applicability etc.
"I am delighted to have this opportunity to share my knowledge about the software sizing method with Indian software professionals" said Symons. Symons invented the MK II Function Point Analysis technique for sizing software requirements, which became the mandated method for sizing and estimating for UK government.
AmitySoft, is engaged in Product Development, Software testing, Quality Management services and Training. It has been recognized as specialist in Object Oriented Analysis and Design.
Common Software Measurement International Consortium (COSMIC) is the global initiative of some leading experts in Software measurement, who have come together to solve the problem of sizing both MIS and Real Time Software, with one common measurement method . The team members are from the Netherlands, Italy, Canada, Finland, Japan, Australia and the UK. The project is led jointly by Symons and Prof Alain Abram of the University of Quebec.
SMS is a European consultancy specializing in the measurement of performance of Software activities and the use of those measurements for estimating project control, bench-marking and performance improvement. Apart from its consultancy services, SMS also offers training courses as part of the COSMIC initiative.
