American co eyes Indian storage market

Hoping to make a dent in the Indian storage market that is expected to touch
Rs 3,000 crore by 2005, motherboard and storage solution provider American
Megatrends Inc (AMI), launched two new storage solutions and plans to tap the
market through SI partnerships.

The company is betting on sales growth from sectors like BPOs, software
solutions and services companies, manu-facturing and education. To further the
marketing of its storage products in India, AMI would tie up with VARS and SIs
and hopes to have 15 partners across India in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata,
Chennai, Bangalore and Hyd-erabad by 2005.

The new storage solutions being launched by the com-pany include StorTrends
iTX-an IP SAN solutions and STRIX Enterprise Wireless LAN system. Jayaram Kris-hnan,
AMI CEO and Director, India said, "Our IP SAN solution implements an iSCSI
based solution that allows users to have a hybrid SAN and NAS system for both
local and WAN networks."

He added that AMI aimed to touch Rs five crore revenues from the IP SAN
solution. "We expect this revenue to triple to Rs 15 crore next year and by
2008-09, we hope to capture seven to ten percent market share," he said.

AMI is partnering with Strix Systems to distribute its Enterprise Wireless
LAN sys-tem, which is a wireless net-working system that is based on mesh
architecture.

The $75 million Atlanta headquartered company has a development center in
Chennai since 1994. Around $two million has been invested into this six acre
campus that houses 125 engineers. Krishnan infor-med that the company would open
a development center in Bangalore in two years' time.
