Agra is a city of the
matchless Taj Mahal. It is located on the banks of river Yamuna, 200
km south of the national capital New Delhi. The rich historical
background of the town is evident from the numerous historical
monuments situated in and around the city. The IT market in the city
is growing at a rapid pace of 20% per annum. The 20-30 resellers in
the city have a predominant presence at Sanjay Palace, which is the
IT and computer hub of the city. Agra's IT market enjoys a turnover
of around Rs 12- 15 crore per annum. The brands gripping the market
are HCL, Acer, HP and Lenovo.
The number of laptops sold
outnumber those of desktops, sound systems and other peripherals.
Jitendra Singh of Angel IT Solutions said, “SME, education, SOHO
are the signifi cant growth verticals in the city.” Manish Kumar of
Shiv Ganga Trading Company predicted, “Though laptop sales are very
good these days but in the time to come, desktop sales should rise.”
Kumar said that the reason for this change
would be the fact that laptops come with a 1-year warranty and beyond
that, repairing costs are high. This pinches the pocket of the
customer, which is not the case with desktops. Its repairing is
cheaper as compared to that of laptops.
Talking about the IT
association in the city, the dealer community had a unanimous opinion
regarding the helping hand that it plays in resolving dealervendor
issues. According to dealers, Agra Trade Association (ATA) is
of great help to them. It helps in resolving every issue with
vendors. Some dealers were also of the opinion that their
relationship with vendors have been smooth, and they have not needed
to seek help from ATA.
