Adaptec initiates Anti-Piracy measures for counterfeit products

Adaptec Inc, a provider in innovative storage solutions, has announced various measures to deal with piracy of its products in India. It has also seized more than 5,000 counterfeit Adaptec AHA-2940 and AHA-3940 host bus adapters at six US Firms worth more than $ 1 million.

"The major task to remove piracy globally would be to advise and educate the buyer through the media. By this education, we will help a buyer to compare and reduce the risk of buying a black market product. Due to the sub-standard quality, 50 percent of black market products fail within one year and almost 35 percent have conflicts with S during installation", said Vincent Chew, Marcom Manager - Asia-Pacific region, Adaptec.

"Adaptec will advertise and educate the market by doing comparisons between the original and counterfeit products. These products may be at a cheaper price, making them more attractive but tend to have intermittent failures and problems such as incompatibility later on. As these products are used mostly in servers which contain mission or business-critical data, the result of failure in the system would be disastrous to the user as well as the reseller", he added.

Counterfeit products undermine the value and integrity of product, threatening technology innovation and diminishing the economic opportunities created by the IT industry, all the while putting consumers at risk. The lower initial cost of counterfeit products end up with increased costs due to failure. Also, there is no technical support available for counterfeit products.
