Allied Computer International (Asia) Ltd (ACi Asia) has launched a note-book
AMC plan with an insurance cover called "PC Protect Plan" (PPP).
According to the company, this has been done to address the main issues in the
growth of the notebook market in India like high cost of service, ambig-uity in
warranties and lack of after sales service infrastruc-ture of most companies
selling notebooks in India.

PPP is a comprehensive warranty extension coupled with insurance and will be
offered on all ACi notebooks and any brand of notebook upto five years old.
According to the press release, PPP provides full comprehensive cover against
both normal and accidental breakdown toge-ther with loss and/or theft protecting
users from high ser-vice costs normally associated with notebook computers. It
is specially designed for mobile computer equipment, covering all types of
failures whether it is caused by wear of tear or any other causes.

Users are assured diagno-stic analysis within 48 hours, repairs within seven
days and insurance claims settled within 21 days. To order a PPP, note-book
users will have to get their notebook inspected and certified to be in working
condition by an authorized ACi engineer.

Speaking about this offering to the notebook user segment, Gautam Ghosh,
Chief Marketing Officer, ACi Asia said, "Our aim of launching "PC
Protect Plan" was to take the fear of after sales service from the minds of
the notebook users in India. We at ACi Asia believe that the only way to grow
the notebook computer market in India is to offer AMC services at reasonable
prices and remove the ambiguity from warranties offered by large MNC players.
The insurance cover going with the scheme will cover the components of the
notebook, which the warranty will not cover.
