Marketing research Gartner and IDC announced global PC market report in
which Acer's marketshare reached 6.8 percent and ranked number four. The
quarter sales volume increased 33 percent as the highest among top five LCD TV
brands. The shipment of 2006 grew 38 percent. Acer is moving toward the third
largest PC brands in the world by the end of 2007. HP PC continues growing in
marketshare at 17.4 percent and also surpassed Dell in two
consecutive quarters. Dell's PC shipment dropped nine percent in Q4 and was
the only one brand that declined. The marketshare of Dell went down at 13.9
percent, reaching the lowest point in four years. According to IDC and Gartner's
market report, the ranking of top five PC brands are HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer and
Toshiba. Gartner pointed out that global PC shipment had reached 240 million
units and would grow 9.9 percent in 2007. The sales value can reach $201.3
billion (NT$6.6 trillion). Acer has been growing stably in Europe and will
include the US and China as two major markets for development. The marketshare
of Acer can grow two to three percent while the shipment can reach 15 million
units in 2007, to become the third largest brand in the world. The growth of
Acer will also trigger Taiwan's OEM industry. Compal obtained a new
manufacture contract from Acer and started shipment last Oct. The shipment of
Dec set a record of NT$1.78 million units. However, the revenue dropped at
NT$35.9 billion in the same month. In order to keep up with the debut of
Microsoft Vista, Acer's shipment will be sustained in Jan.
