Acer is eyeing the development of HD DVD in the next
generation of portable drive and going to launch HD DVD laptop computer (NB) in
Q2. At current stage, this model is still high-end type. Acer is hoping to take
advanÂtage of the new market. When Sony which supports Blu-Ray specification
confirmed to postpone the launch time of PS3 this year, Microsoft XBOX 360
already took the lead to enter the market first. In future, XBOX will support HD
DVD specification that shows the positive prospect for down-stream HD DVD
assemblers. Among global PC industrials, supporting group of HD DVD included HP,
Toshiba, and Acer when Dell indicated to support Blu-Ray for Sony during the CES
this January. In fact, most leading PC brands suppÂort both HD DVD and Blu-Ray
specifications; however, it is still too early to tell which specification will
stand out.
