Accelerating IT growth in Assam

CM Tarun Gogoi reviewed the progress of various projects and schemes of the IT department presently being executed in the state at a meeting held in his office on 5th July 2014.

During the meeting, CM stressed on the faster implementation of the various IT projects including the state wide rollout of the e-district projects which can immensely benefit the citizens of the state in availing various government services at their doorstep through the common service centers and public facilitation centers. Gogoi also directed the IT department to extend network connectivity to all blocks and circle offices in the state on a priority basis.

The CM emphasized on transparency in government procurements through the early initiation of the e-procurement project. He reviewed the progress made in implementation of the Secretariat Less Paper Office (SLPO), aimed at online processing of files in the secretariat. The CM directed the IT department to take necessary measures for the early launch of the program.

He lauded the initiative of the IT department to set up a cyber tower in Guwahati which will provide plug and play ready facilities for the IT/ITeS companies. The CM suggested that an innovation fund for promoting research and innovation in educational institutions should be set up. Gogoi asked the officials to set up a mechanism for making the pension and treasury system completely electronic for the benefit of the citizens and old age pensioners. The CM called for expediting the setting up of the Directorate of Information Technology (DoIT) for proper implementation of the IT program and policy. He also emphasized on wide spread media publicity to these initiatives to raise awareness among citizens.

The meeting was attended by Jitesh Khosla, Chief Secretary, Rajiv Bora, Principal Secretary to the IT Department, MGVK Bhanu, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Anurag Goel, Commissioner and Secretary, IT Department, JVN Subramanyam, Joint Secretary, IT Department, Dinesh Pegu, MD, AMTRON and other officials.
