In an achievement of its own kind, Mumbai-based ABC Systems has become the
first system integrator partner in the country to integrate a cell site for
Ericsson at Mount Everest base camp. At 13,500 feet, this is the highest point
in the world radiating mobile signals.
An elated Sidhhartha Singh, Proprietor, ABC Systems stated,“We have been
associated with Ericsson for the past four or five years now and serve as their
authorized service provider in Nepal. We were engaged in setting up mobile
towers across Nepal including Kathmandu, since it's one of the preferred tourist
destinations. However, integrating a mobile tower at Everest base camp was a
challenge in itself and we have become the first system integrator of India to
have deployed the project successfully. Until sometime back there was no
coverage in the region but now people can stay connected even at that height.”
The project costing around Rs 30 to Rs 35 lakh required the four member team
from ABC Systems to carry different logistics and clothes in order to ensure
completion of the project. Helicopters were used to reach a certain altitude of
base camp, following which the team had to cover the remaining distance by
trekking.
“Our team sat idle for around ten days before they could actually set-up the
tower. In addition to braving the weather, they worked for two days to ensure
smooth technical implementation of the cell site,”added Singh.
Post the deployment of the above project, ABC Systems is now concentrating on
implementing 3G services for BSNL in four circles, including Uttar Pradesh, West
Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar.
