'A trial that turned out too good'

"Chennai is a home town for many, especially for people who come from other states, as it gives opportunity for them. In fact, my first choice was also Chennai and I moved to this entrepreneur-friendly city in 1988," said MC Jain, Managing Director, Mahavir Computer Spares.

Hailing from a small village called Bherunda, near Ajmeer in Rajasthan, Mahavir opted to move out to Chennai soon after completing his graduation in look out for a suitable business. "I had my relatives, friends and neighbors (from Rajasthan) settled here even much before I came to Madras (now Chennai). I took one my relatives help to get into business here and we started a partnership company to deal with industrial electronics products," he said.

Later, Mahavir started his own venture in 1992 and Mahavir Computer Spares is dealing with IT and related products from day one in business. Today, it is one of the leading names in the market being well recognized by all major vendors and distributors.

Born in 1967, Mahavir is the fifth among his six siblings. His father was a businessman who also had some lands for cultivation. Mahavir spent most of his youth life in hostel for education and he says it is an opportunity for him to learn many things especially self-reliance. Studied in St. Anselems School, Ajmeer, from LKG to class XII, he did his graduation in B.Com from Jodhpur University. "I completed the graduation in 1987," he said.

Mahavir who found Chennai will be the best place for his business, moved to this city on a trial basis. "I really wanted to find out whether Chennai will suit me. But, everything went smoothly and of course, Chennai is a best place to live with," he quipped.

Mahavir is an active sportsman who represented his school and college teams in many games. "Even today I play volley ball and other games, and this is the secret of me being young and active," claims
Mahavir.

Mahavir was married to Nikita in 1995 and his wife is from Vijayawada, a busy business town in Andhra Pradesh. "I like Andhra for its rice. It is very sweet and it looks good when served," he says.

Mahavir loves his three-year old kid Chetan for his naughtiness and grasping things fastly. "He is quick in learning things, be it a rhyme or music tune and any thing," he adds.
