3Com Corporation has announced its strategy to deliver an enhanced secure,
converged voice and data-networking portfolio, complete with pro-active security
monitoring, to the enterprise market in Asia Pacific. This follows the
completion of its acquisition of TippingPoint Technologies in February this
year, and signals the company's commitment to deliver innovative,
standards-based and secure networking solutions to the enterprise market.
According to the press release, the strategy involves aggressively expanding
the 3Com security solution port-folio to automate the security lifecycle, and
continuing the evolution of network and security evolution to integrate
Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) technology into switch and router products.
The network security market continues to be a hot area of growth, with IDC
predicting spending in this area to rise steadily from $ two billion in 2003 to
$ seven billion by 2008. And pro-active network security monitoring, leverag-ing
on TippingPoint's Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), is key especially in
this time of regulatory activity, where preserving the integrity,
confidentiality and longevity of corporate information is crucial to success.
"The goal of IT infrastructure today is to create proactive systems that
can detect and protect against unauthorized access, at the same time provide
timely access to legitimate users. Today's networks cannot simply deny access
in the face of an attack. It must have an integrated IPS to respond to attacks
in ways that maintain network availability and reliability and allow a business
to continue func-tioning," said Alvin Toh, Director (Enterprise Sales),
3Com SEAI.
"TippingPoint's long-term strategy is to continue lever-aging 3Com's
global resour-ces: distribution, services, support and partnerships to obtain
and maintain market share. While competitors in the market are working on
getting their first-generation product up-to-speed with other IPS's on the
market, TippingPoint will be working on its 5th and 6th generation of IPS's,"
said James Yeh, Director (Regional Sales for APR), TippingPoint.
