3Com introduces LAN switch 4500 for VoIP

Com Corporation has introduced a LAN switch for security and
support of Voice over IP (VoIP) and other convergence applications for SMEs. The
switch was designed using open industry standards and is the industry's first
stackable LAN switch, according to the company.

It added in a statement that that the new 3Com Switch 4500
family combines standards-based security for user authentication; support

for the new TippingPoint X505 and dynamic "plug-and-play" support for
multiple vendors' VoIP services.

"Stackable switches are back in vogue and have become
part of the security fabric of networks, as well as enablers for IP
communications," said Zeus Kerravala, Senior Analyst and VP, Yankee Group.
"The ability of the Switch 4500 to recognize any VoIP service provides
unique value to customers who prefer best-of-breed technology for converged
solutions."

The 3Com Switch 4500 is a managed 10/100 switch, available in
26-port and 50-port models. It includes extensive Layer 2 switching and dynamic
Layer 3 routing functionality.

3Com said that the Switch 4500 is ideal for converged
networks. Additionally, it is interoperable in multi-vendor networks.

The Switch 4500 26-port is priced at $1,095. The Switch 4500 50-port is
available for $1,995. The Switch 4500 PWR 26-port is priced at $2,295, while the
Switch 4500 PWR 50-port comes with a price tag of $4,295.
