In the wake of the terrorist attacks on America's World Trade Center and the
epitome of ultimate security 'The Pentagon', the Hyderabad-based IT community is
also having its share of shock. Nearly 25 employees of the city-based
Intelligroup are feared to be trapped in the World Trade Center at the time of
the attack.
MDS Bosco, COO, Intelligroup, said that it was a part of the regular practice
for the employees of Intelligroup to visit New York Stock Exchange to offer
maintenance support. He also added that the details of those trapped in the
building are not known. "We are not even sure about the number of
employees--usually between 15 to 25 employees visit the place on a regular
basis," he explained.
Meanwhile, the city's IT community has expressed its sorrow over the act of
terrorism. On the effects of this shameful terrorist act, JA Chowdary, Chairman,
Hyderabad Software Exporters Association, said that it would further dampen the
already recession gripped economy and affect IT trade in the sub-continent.
Chairman and MD of VisualSoft Technologies, another Hyderabad-based IT
company, said that it is unlikely that this incident will have a direct impact
on the IT companies in India. However, SVL Narayan, spokesperson for Satyam
Computers, was of the opinion that an act like this will further affect the US
economy, which is already on a declining path.
As a sizable number of city-based software professionals live in the US and
specifically in New York and Washington, their anxious families made a beeline
to STD booths and Internet cafes to find out about their safety.
