The Delhi market seems to have a spurt of computer dealers associations in the last few months. The new addition is the Computer Media Dealers Association-Delhi (CMDA), which was formed a month ago.

The new association is formed to represent the `least featured lot' among the computer dealers, namely the IT consumable industry and the media traders. This includes traders in all the consumables in the IT industry like the ink cartridges ribbons, data storage items such as floppy diskettes, CD-Rs, MOs and the like.

"We do have our own problems related to government agencies and other principal companies which are not getting addressed in the other trader organizations. For example, in the uniform sales tax issue, we had problems from the Pondicherry as well as the Bangalore sector," said Puneet Singhal of Pioneer Enterprises, who was in the forefront of organizing the association.

The association has a current membership of 80 resellers/dealers from all over Delhi, which is expected to go up to a figure of 400. The association plans to affiliate themselves with the computer media associations of other major cities such as CMDA-Mumbai. It has also plans to buy space for making a separate trading center for media and consumables in Delhi on the pattern of Simlin Square of Singapore. The CMDA intends to make a trade directory of all the media dealers as well as plans to come out with a news letter, wherein information regarding new products as well as the new legislatures will be given out for the benefit of the dealers.

The association will also look at standardizing holidays in lieu with government holidays and would also look at increasing the social and cultural interaction between the traders.

The ad hoc committee members of the association include Puneet Singhal of Pioneer Enterprises, Naresh Kohli of International Computer Resources, T Ahluwalia of Asterisk Media India Pvt Ltd, Dinesh Chopra of Softek Surya India Ltd, AK Pandey of Miraj Marketing Corp, Rajesh Kataria of SL Kataria & Sons, Neeraj Munjal of Dhruv Sales and Tarun Tuli of Royal Computers. Once the association achieves the required numbers, CMDA would conduct formal elections for the office bearers, informed Singhal.

Interested resellers can join the forum by sending in RS 500. "By the response that we got, I am confident that the association will function in an effective manner and will address the problems of the media traders competently," added Puneet.
