World’s cheapest smartphone Namotel ‘Acche Din’ launched at Rs 99

Here's another attempt at offering cheap smartphone and this time, it's really cheap. Bengaluru-based Namotel is marketing Namotel Acche Din at an insanely low price of Rs 99, calling it India's most affordable smartphone.

At a press conference, the company's promoter Madhav Reddy said that the smartphone is available for pre-booking from May 17 to May 25 on the company's website namotel.com. However, the website did not open when The DQ Week tried to book the smartphone.

Also, there's a rider for all those planning to buy the smartphone. Propspective buyers are required to register on bemybanker.com website and get a user ID and password, which is required to book the smartphone on namotel.com. For registration on bemybanker.com website, users need to pay a one-time lifetime membership fee of Rs 199.

However, bemybanker.com too showed database error when The DQ Week tried to access it.

As for the specifications, Namotel Acche Din sports a 4-inch display with 480x800 pixels WVGA resolution. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and packs 1GB RAM. There's 4GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. There's a 2MP camera at the back and a VGA selfie camera for those who plan on using this thing for taking photos. Connectivity options include 3G and dual-SIM.

The website of the company, namotel.com, shows that the price has been slashed from Rs 2,999 to Rs 99 and that the smartphone is available on cash-on-delivery basis. The company also adds that nominal delivery charges will be levied.

The message being displayed by the company says - 'Joy and freedom represents the logo! The same joy will flourish in billion Indians in the form of smart Connect with (3 different looks and shapes) Android Smart powerful Phone at 99. We make this product to show love for India it is a 'MAKE IN INDIA' Initiative. This model is limited and it is applicable only for India and who holds Aadhar Identity.

The company has also added a note on its site that says, 'Pictures shown on website is for illustration purposes only.
