This is the new smartphone Asus is working on

Taiwanese smartphone maker Asus might be secretly working on a new battery-focussed smartphone. The rumoured handset has been listed on Chinese equipment certification website Tenaa, along with its specifications and design.

As per the listing the smartphone, with model number X00GD, will run on Android 7.0 Nougat. It will apparently feature a 4,850mAh battery, which is more than that found in the recently launched battery-focussed Zenfone 3 Max smartphone. The device comes with a 4,000mAh battery capacity. It can therefore be inferred that the X00GD will last longer than the Zenfone 3 Max.

Other specifications mentioned on the website include a 5.2-inch HD display with a 720x1280 pixel resolution. The handset will measure 149.5x73.7x8.85mm, weigh approximately 169 grams, and will be powered by an octa-core 1.5GHz processor. A 13MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP front snapper will complete its imaging capabilities.

The Asus X00GD may come in three variants based on RAM capacity and inbuilt storage. As per the information available on Tenaa, it may have a 2GB, 3GB, or 4GB RAM configuration padded with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB storage options. Support for storage expansion through a microSD card has also been provided.

Although Asus has not revealed anything about its Zenfone 4 smartphone series, it can be assumed that the handset in question here may be a part of this series. The company has already confirmed that it will be launching new handsets at the CES 2017 tradeshow to be held in Las Vegas next week.

Earlier reports suggested that Asus may be gearing up for the launch of its Zenfone 3 Zoom smartphone at the event.

In a related development, a new smartphone with model number Z01HDA was listed on Tenaa along with its images and specifications.

According to the images, it appears that the handset may feature a dual-rear camera setup. If true, this would be the first Asus smartphone to have a dual camera setup at the back.

As seen in the listing, the rear camera design looks identical to that of the iPhone 7 Plus. However, unlike the iPhone 7, the alleged Zenfone 3 Zoom will have an autofocus sensor and LED flash placed right below the camera module.
