Computer software, computer programs, future modern communication tools, alternative sources of energy, e-governance and e-generation construction techniques were the highlights of the two-day national-level technical symposium 'Technosearch-2001', at Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT), Bhopal. Engineers, IT-savvy students and professionals gathered from all over the country to attend the symposium.

Faisal Farooque, Symposium Coordinator said "Engineering students from leading institutions all over the country are participating in the symposium. A glimpse of the exacting standards being implemented in the selection and evaluation of presentations can be had from the fact that only 75 project presentations have been selected out of more than 175 applications submitted for Technosearch-2001. There are eight new innovative software products and nine new engineering models, to be presented during the two-day symposium."

On the first day of Technosearch-2001, various sessions were organized, like presentations on topics such as Cyber Quest, Civic Arch, Plug-in and Techtronics. Interestingly, a guided tour of Bhopal city and its environs, along with a quiz session, are also on the cards for outsiders to the city.

During the Cyber Quest session, students presented papers on new IT techniques such as Bluetooth technology, which allows various electrical and IT gadgets to communicate with each other, synchronize data and connect to the internet at high speeds without the need for wires or cables.

Other similar presentations included papers on 'E-Commerce and Internet Security', 'Data Compression and Encryption on the Internet', and 'The Quantum Computer'. The paper on the Quantum Computer gave a glimpse of an anachronism and explained the difference between quantum computers and present-day computers, along with their merits and demerits.

In another session of Plug-ins and alternative energy resources, papers were presented on technological advances made in these areas. Similar papers were presented on topics like 'Bio-medical Instrumentation', and so on.

PB Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi Praudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, inaugurated the seminar. In his address, he said that MACT would soon gain the status of National Institute of Technology. He added that although MACT has not gained the status of IIT, its students were no less than an IIT-ans.
