Sun is strategic partner at India Economic Summit

Recognizing the rapid strides made by India in economic development and continuing its commitment to India, Sun Microsystems today announced its participation in the India Economic Summit 2000.

Sun was a strategic partner to the World Economic Forum for the Summit, which was held in New Delhi from November 26 to 28. The theme of the summit was "Leveraging Knowledge for Growth - India on the move."

IT, the fast emerging driving force for India's future economic growth, deservedly occupied center stage at the summit. Indian corporate leaders discussed how its economic concerns can be met by harnessing its IT talent and skills, which in recent times have won immense recognition worldwide. The forum also discussed long-awaited initiatives like hastening the liberalization process and the need for enhanced bandwidth and telecom infrastructure that would need to be taken to make India a true Global IT Superpower.

Commenting on Sun's participation at the summit, Jay Puri, VP (Asia Pacific), Sun Microsystems Inc, said, "The World Economic Forum's India Economic Summit is an ideal venue for a global discussion of the promises and challenges that lie ahead for the India's economy and the role that technology will play in shaping the future of India. Puri shared his insights into the rapidly evolving new economy in India, how the country is moving towards leadership in a highly networked, dynamic global marketplace in a panel discussion titled, "Integrating the new economy - How India Inc is becoming

India.com."

Bhaskar Pramanik, MD, Sun Microsystems India Pvt Ltd, looked at the implications of "putting the clicks in the bricks" - how the traditional brick and mortar industries have the potential to integrate new technologies and become globally competitive.
