Chennai-based leading sub-distributor Solaris Computers Pvt Ltd is entering

into retail in a big way. The company plans to open a chain of showrooms in the

city with a sizeable investment and this signifies the company's realignment

of business focus from reseller model to direct end-users. Currently, more than

70 percent of business comes from reselling, while corporate customers

contri-bute remaining 30 percent. However, the new retail initia-tive would

increase the end-user focus in business, keeping its cash register ringing with

immediate realization. "We will display wide range of products and services

in our showrooms, including trendy gadgets and innovative devi-ces. We are also

planning to import few products directly from the overseas markets," said T

Jayakumar, Director (Marketing), Solaris.

Solaris Computers will also make a re-entry into UPS busi-ness with its own

brand.

Meanwhile, the company is strengthening its service business to improve the

revenues there. The com-pany provides both AMC and on-call service, and has over

1,500 machines under contract. Solaris Computers is the authorized service

partner for WeP Peripherals and Epson range of printers. "Soon, we are

signing up with HP as authorized ser-vice partner for their complete range of

products other than servers," said KC Ramesh, Director (Market

Development), Solaris.

Solaris Computers is also looking for niche products to sign up and market in

India. Last year, the company has tied-up with a Singapore-based company-Beatron,

for their time stamp recorders. "It was a good opening for us and we

focused on BFSI segment with the time stamp recorders. In fact, we sold over

1,000 machines across the country and established a nation-wide network to

service the clients. Now, we want to leverage on the 'national player'

account by signing up with more compa-nies and products," he said. The

company has full-fledged offices in Mumbai and Bangalore, while it has appointed

resident engineers in Delhi, Cochin and Hyderabad.

Solaris Computers is a preferred partner for Samsung, WeP Peripherals, HP,

and Epson. Last year, the company has registered a turnover of Rs 18 crore in

business.
