The management consulting practice at Siemens Information Systems Ltd (SISL) has entered into a partnership agreement with Avraham Goldratt Institute of US (AGI) to bring to India, the Theory of Constraints (TOC). Theory of Constraints propounded by Dr Eilyahu Goldratt provides a practical framework for managing enterprises with a holistic and focused approach and does away with conflicts between local operating level decisions and global company objectives and goals.

The tie-up with AGI, a company dealing in TOC consulting, will provide generic solutions for manufacturing, projects and supply chain management as well as sales, management accounting etc.

TOC approach is to map the different parts of enterprise onto logical tree structures, which describe the dynamics of the organization as a whole. This is used to unearth the assumptions and reasons for the conflicts that the company faces and compromises that result from it.

It then brings in the powerful Five Focusing Step methodology, to identify the constraint and systematically attack the associated problems. The result is dramatic improvements of throughput (or contribution) and customer order due date performance and inventory reduction.

TOC leads to excellent work environments and motivated employees. It also focuses the company's investment in initiatives such as TQM, TPM, ERP, SCM, CRM, etc to where it is really needed and gets quantifiable business benefits.

Speaking to media, AS Viswanathan, Director, SISL said, "This partnership will bring the value of Dr Goldratt's extraordinary contributions to management science through the deep-rooted and long presence of Siemens in India."

Kathryn Leishman of AGI added, "This tie-up gives us a platform where instead of working with one individual consultant at a time, we are working with a large organization and hence are able to reach out to a larger audience and also much faster."
