Rs 148 Crore Karnataka schools contract for NIIT

NIIT Ltd has bagged the largest IT contract in India valued at Rs 148 crore from the Karnataka Government. The order for implementing computer education in high schools across the length and breadth of the State will run for five years.

Giving details, L Balasubramanian, Senior VP, NIIT, said, "This prestigious contract gives NIIT an opportunity to partner in 'Mahiti Sindhu' (Information Ocean), Karnataka Government's initiative to broadbase IT education and take it to students in the deep interiors."

NIIT will be fully leveraging its expertise in systems integration, educational process management, project management, infrastructure planning and digital content creation for successful execution of this project. As part of this single biggest schools computer education project, NIIT will be setting up the mammoth infrastructure of state-of-the-art computer classrooms in 700 government schools across Karnataka. The classrooms will use the latest software, networking technology and Internet connectivity.

To cater to the IT learning needs of school-children, the company has set up an independent business unit, Project K-12, headed by Balasubramanian, with a dedicated team focussing on the implementation of these projects within specified quality and time norms.
