Modified BSNL

BSNL has different plans to provide different new services for subscribers in Punjab. According to BSNL, they are committed to provide cheaper mobile service to Punjab subscribers by January next year. BSNL has placed an order of 1.1 lakh mobile sets to Ericsson. BSNL is planning to provide best available services to customers hence, different aspects of formations are being discussed and finalized regularly. They have fixed a target of providing 8,000 sets in Jalandhar, 2,000 for Kapurthala, 1,000 for Navanshahar, 2,000 for Phagwara, 1,000 for Phillaur and 1,000 for Sultanpur in initial stage.

BSNL has upgraded its last exchange having five numbers. From Oct 4, this exchange will have six digit numbers. These all numbers are now connected to E-10 electronic exchange. These subscribers can now avail different advanced services offered by BSNL. This also includes a service to provide Internet facility over the phone to the subscribers. Installation of this service is very easy. Subscriber has to dial a special number (172233) and follow the instructions received. This will automatically start the Internet in subscriber's phone. BSNL has already selected 140 Internet Dhabas for providing Internet services to public. Out of these Dhabas, 89 have got their connections and rest will get it soon.

New MIT program

Punjab College of Information Technology has launched a new program on IT. This is a 20 months course recognized from Charles Strut University, Australia and it is presented in technical and academic collaboration with London School of Commerce, London. Under this collaboration, the students can study the entire course in Patiala or transfer part of their credits to complete the course at the campus in London. Institute would also provide global placement assistance.
