Also the storage market is growing at an explosive rate and it is expected that by the year 2004, the total storage requirement would be almost 2 million terabits of data.

Said Aditya Pant, Head Research Operations, IDC India, "The storage market is growing at both ends - business as well as consumer segment. The growing Internet entertainment market and the emergence of new appliances drives the storage surge in the consumer end. Storage needs of business are expanding because of the greater demand for Internet infrastructure on the one hand, and storage enabling of non-computing devices, like printers as well as the increasing trend of storage in T&M products, on the other.

Providing the user perspective, Prasanto K Roy, Chief Editor, Dataquest, Cyber Media Group of Publications, said, "Storage is growing rapidly as a component of users' infotech decisions--as well as of product and systems value, from enterprise to consumer products. The tremendous amount of information and content managed by all--individuals to large business--is driving this, and is generating new opportunities and services for the smaller users, such as the online storage ASP. Storage and managing storage are now a key part of user needs, in this information age."
