Pornographic surfing on rise

Thousands of pornography sites are surfed every day in the cyber cafes of the

state capital. According to police, there are over 50 cyber cafes functioning in

the state capital providing round- the-clock net access to people from all walks

of life, youth. The youngsters surf these pornographic sites without any hassles

during these hours, and are also found engaged in chatting on pornographic

sites. In the absences of any effective cyber laws, surfing these pornographic

websites has become a flourishing business for cyber cafe owners, where these

youth usually spend hours together and pay large sums for the pleasure and

privacy.

Balbir Singh, Additional SP, Bhopal, said that police can take action against

the surfer and the cafe owner only if the user is caught red-handed while

watching or chatting on porno sites. But users usually get ample time to delete

the history of the screen before police can swing into action. Meanwhile,

psychiatrist Dr Vishnu Shrivastava said that surfing pornographic sites can

cause chronic mental problems to youth.

Design Edutech's new center

Design Edutech opened its new center in Bhopal recently. PK Maheshwari,

Member, Rajya Sabha, inaugurated the center. The center is aimed at imparting

quality training so as to cater to the needs of the aspirants choosing

information technology as a career option. The courses are designed in a

different way, so that all students can secure a position in the field of

information technology. The center shall offer courses like MS Dos, MS Windows,

MS Excel, HTML, Java, Java Basics, Visual Basics, RDBMS, C, C++, Oops, Unix and

Linux, Web page designing and all DTP courses.

The franchisee of Design Edutech in Bhopal is run by Gourav Kathuria, Upma

Kathuria and Vinod Kathuria (Era Computers). The center is also equipped with

the biggest computer library in Bhopal, so claims, Gourav. The method of

teaching is based on the new concept of computer-based training technique, he

added.

LIC launches MAN system

LIC has launched its Metro Area Network (MAN) system for Bhopal division.

Under the system, 10 branches of the division of LIC would be interconnected

through leased telecom lines. The system would enable, policy-holders to pay

their premium and avail other services like policy status, revival and loan

quotation from any branch of Bhopal, irrespective of the branch where the policy

is serviced. According to a LIC spokesperson, the network would be of great help

to the policy-holders who would have the facility of walking into any LIC branch

and getting their work done.

While launching the network, A Ramamurthy, Chief, LIC said that the

organization had commissioned the MAN in 41 cities all over the country

including Indore and Gwalior. Bhopal is the third in this sequence and the

network would be commissioned in Jabalpur from tomorrow. LIC is emphasizing the

concept of service at the doorstep. A premium could be paid through the Internet

and the policy details can be had through the Internet from anywhere in the

world, 24 hours a day.

Video-conferencing for development

National Center for Human Settlements and Environment (NCHSE) and the Academy

of Administration, MP will jointly organize a video conferencing with villagers

in Ujjain, Dhar, Jhabua and Vidisha districts on various developmental issues.

Agriculture, watershed veterinary, social welfare and self employment schemes

are some of the subjects which will be covered in the video conferencing. The

panel of experts who will interact with the villagers will include Director

General, Academy of Administration, PK Mehrotra; Chairman, NCHSE and other

senior officials.
