Microsoft and Compaq launch Windows 2000 Datacenter Program

Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd and Compaq Computer India Pvt Ltd, has announced the launch of Windows 2000 Datacenter Program for a critical and demanding line of business, Data Warehousing and E-commerce applications. 

Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter, a functional server operating system from Microsoft, targets at the mainframe space, coupled with hardware and comprehensive service support from Compaq, will provide a solution to Indian businesses, to meet the mission critical business requirements. 

The Datacenter program is an initiative undertaken by Microsoft and Compaq, to provide technology and alternatives to expensive proprietary systems at optimum price-performance. It delivers a high level of scalability and justifies the investment value available for large dotcom, Asps and large enterprise customers who need fault tolerant systems that provide round the clock availability.

The product is optimized for large data warehouses, performing econometric analysis, large-scale simulations in science and engineering, conducting online transaction processing and server consolidation. 

Commenting on the program, Sanjay Mirchandani, MD, Microsoft Corporation India Pvt Ltd said, "Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is the first and most significant offering from Microsoft to the high-end mainframe space.     Datacenter lab in Bellevue, USA. 

  • Rigorous system testing and qualification of hardware and software 

    to ensure that they perform optimally together. 

  • Coordinated maintenance and change control for hardware and software updates.

  • Strict reliability assurance through new Microsoft Certified Support

    Center (MCSC) requirements specifically designed for this program.

Pricing and Availability 

The Compaq Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter solution is available on Compaq ProLiant 8500 Server and starts at Rs 67 lakh plus Compaq Datacenter Enterprise Support, which starts at Rs 10 lakh. This solution includes one ProLiant 8500 server configured with a Remote Insight Board, Lights-Out Edition and the Windows 2000 Datacenter Server Edition operating system license. 

The solution on Compaq ProLiant ML770 32 way Datacenter server will be available for order by March 2001. The Compaq Microsoft Datacenter solution can be purchases from Compaq Enterprise Sales.
