Chennai-based Kaashyap Radiant Systems (KRSL), in association with Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU), has launched a fast-track one year international degree on e-commerce. Under the School of E-Commerce program, even students with a bachelor's degree in arts and science can opt for the program designed by NWOSU.

The program offers 25 certificate courses, each certificate being equivalent to a credit hour. These 25 credits would be taken into account as and when the students go over to the US for further education. KRSL and its partners have been authorized by NWOSU to provide certifications. In addition to Chennai, KRSL has training centers in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai. Not only does the School of E-Commerce offer high quality, rigorous, comprehensive and hands-on training to the students, but also its Internet Incubator facility in the NWOSU campus gives an opportunity to the students to develop, operate and manage e-commerce business from a variety of major industries.

"According to the IT Association of America, there are about 843,000 vacancies in the IT field in the US, which would grow to about 2.3 million in 2003. Right now, the US do not have enough educational institutions to meet that type of training requirements. That opened our eyes to the need of introducing the program to the rest of the world. India is now the world capital of IT and we should use the intellectual capital here for the next generation", said Alex Pujari, Dean of

NWOSU.

Lauding the e-commerce program, Ananda Krishnan, IT Advisor to the Tamil Nadu Government, announced that from next academic year Tamil Nadu would also start a one-year degree program on IT for bachelor degree holders. "Very soon, students coming out of Tamil Nadu colleges would have had 150 hours of computer training including theory and practical sessions. We are thinking of introducing foundation courses in Computer Science in every college", he added.

KRSL and NWOSU have invited other educational institutions also to associate themselves with the program, in that case they would be provided course materials by NWOSU and faculty training by KRSL.

KRSL has also set up a Global E-Commerce Resource Foundation (GECRF) in association with NWOSU to provide services for various e-commerce projects and research of NWOSU. It has also been awarded the e-learning pilot portal order from NWOSU which would enable students to learn online. It will be launched through Meet Virtual, a portal designed by KRSL.
