Ingram Micro is promoting a web-based solution to help its dealers and resellers to
transact business over the Internet itself, which is expected to give a better
cost-advantage and quick turnaround time for the business partners.
Out of the 4,000 active channel partners with us, the top 1,000 resellers will be
covered in this e-business initiative in the current year. Slowly, we will bring
all of the channel partners into this online network," said NY Prasad,
Chief Operating Officer, Ingram Micro India Ltd.
The e-business network would allow the participants to do business online, besides
checking out the stock position, order status, warranty issues etc. "In the
present market conditions, the channel partners cannot be expected to hold huge
inventory to run the business as the capital is being locked. Moreover, prices
of the products are also changing everyday which doesn't allow players to have
huge inventory,said Prasad.
Ingram hopes that the present e-business plan would ease the burden of its partners in
holding inventory, at the same time offering quicker turnaround time in service.
The cost of transactions will surely come down for the business partners
and the business process will be lot more efficient after this e-business
solution implementation," he said. The company also plans to flash all
vendor promoted schemes immediately ensuring better reach of the program.
The solution will strengthen our supply chain management better and
prudent handling of inventory for the market," added Prasad.
The company is not very keen in having big channel numbers and turnover figures.
Profitability is more important in the present market conditions and our
effort to bring e-business active would present a win-win situation for both the
company and business partners,he said.
In the current year, the company would be very cautious in adding multiple brands
and products, and said if there is any addition, it would be in networking and
enterprise solution segments.
