With the technological advancement in every field in order to ensure safety would be focussing around the idea of Internet of Things (IoT). IoT is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity to enable it to achieve greater value and service by exchanging data with the manufacturer, operator and/or other connected devices. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the existing Internet infrastructure.

First documented in 1999, according to Gartner, there will be nearly 26 billion devices on the Internet of Things by 2020.

But for this it is important that everyone should follow the same standards and in order to ensure this the Government of India under the initiative of Department of Telecommunication (DoT) and TEC has created the guidelines of M2M Communications.

In the conference held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Telecommunication Engineering Centre with contribution from Smart24x7, introduced its report on M2M communications and claimed that this innovation would certainly change the way humans live.

According to the report, DoT would contribute in policy making and setting up of safety standards in India. These guidelines are very much instrumental and are used in the smart cities where wearable and the others safety and security applications and appliances are getting used in homes to standardised the behaviour of the devices as well as the responses provided to the victims. The thought is to cover all the smart cities under this innovation with initial focus on covering 100 smart cities. The devices and solutions to be used should be scalable and work on the pre-defined standards, so that new devices and solutions can be integrated with ease.

CP Singh, the founder of Smart Group said, “Safety and security is paramount, and the government has taken various initiatives to safeguard its citizens. Safety & surveillance ensures a safe and secure environment, not just limited to video surveillance, emergency response, and technology enabled smart premise. Safety and security M2M applications are relevant to all of the domains such as home, medical and industrial. M2M has dramatically expanded the scope of available home security and safety products”.

Anantharam Varayur, managing director, Web com said, “When we talk about the Safety and security, there should be immediate annalistic action behind every criminal activity . For example if a CCTV is installed on road, the purpose of it should be to reduce the crime not for the sake of investigation after the crime. If some one is crossing red light there should be immediate action against it. These kinds of immediate actions will reduce the crime”.

He also added “We all know that Government spends a lot on these kinds of developments but after it no one bothers about their maintenance. Government should be keeping their eyes on maintenance of Safety and security surveillance system. After the warranty, government should take care about proper maintenance of systems”.
