Goa court orders stay on GIBA emergency general body meeting

The Margao Civil Court on Wednesday asked 11 members of GIBA not to conduct an emergency general body meeting till the next order which was proposed on 22nd April. Issuing a show cause notice, the court asked the members to file their written replies in the court.

The order passed by the court reads, “The defendant No. 6 to 9 are ordered not to convene or hold any emergency general body meeting, until they filed their replies hereto.”

It must be recalled that declaring the presidential elections null and void, the GIBA general body during its extraordinary general meeting held on 8th April, had proposed fresh elections on 22nd April, 2015. The elected managing committee had approached the court for not to convene GIBA emergency meeting on the said date.

Talking to the DQ Week, Ram Iyer, one of the GIBA members, who was present during the court hearing last day, said that out of 11 only four members have received the show cause notice so far. He said that the members who received the show cause notice requested the court for time to contest.

“We have taken time to contest. Let all the members receive the show cause notice first”, he said.

Sudheer Prabhu, then general secretary of GIBA said who has not received the notice yet said that the general body would decide the plan of action once all the members receive the show cause notice.

Meanwhile the PO team has intimated the members regarding cancellation of the emergency general body meet. It said that the revised date would be intimated as and when the court vacates the stay.
