Chennai-based

total e-mail solution provider, Enmail.com, has launched a messaging

communication system, enmail Xchange, based on open source components.

Enmail Xchange is a small piece of software that runs on Microsoft platform, which

synchronizes an organization's internal and external messaging communication

systems. The indigenous mail management software connects periodically to the

Internet and downloads all incoming messages and uploads all outgoing messages

using a single connection. It works in a dial-up environment also. It

complements Intranet messaging applications such as Microsoft Exchange Server,

Lotus Notes, Sendmail etc.

The software took about three months to develop to meet the needs of our existing

customers. Having developed it with relative ease, we felt it would benefit

other companies with similar requirements if we take it on an open source

platform," Karthik Iyer, CEO, Enmail.com.

The open source model of development ensures longevity of the software as it gives

developers the freedom to modify it assuring a high quality product. Enmail.com

hopes to get some indirect trickle down effect as the Internet community accepts

the software. It has plans to contribute more products if it gets a positive

response from the industry.
