US-based Davox Corp, a customer interaction software company, will set up its Indian subsidiary to tap the business potential of the explosive call center market in the country. Davox' decision to set up the subsidiary was triggered by the sudden spurt of call-center activity in the country since the last couple of quarters.

The company has already hired its Country Manager who will essentially focus on the sales and marketing while the support service and help-desk operations will be outsourced to three partners. Currently Spectramind and Global Call Center have been chosen as its partners while its third partner is yet to be decided.

India is among the three most potential markets for call centers in the Asia-Pacific region along with Shanghai and Taiwan. But while both these centers will address either the domestic markets and the needs of the Asian region, India is the only destination that will address the needs of the US economy-- primarily due to its language advantage.

Speaking about the latest initiative, Pramod Ratwani, VP, Asia-Pacific, says, "We plan to hire another 8-10 professionals as part of our team here and invest $10 million- $15 million over the next two years in the country."

Davox Corp which has a turnover of $100 million gets about 30 percent of its revenues from the Asia-Pacific region of which India contributes 20-25 percent. Currently Chennai-based Future Software is the only premium partner in the country but it is also in the process of signing up with HCL Comnet and Network Solutions as its partners.
