Mumbai Police and NASSCOM have come together to open Mumbai Cyber Lab. The
initiative is called ‘Cyber Labs Initiative of the Police for Public service’
(CLIPPS). The purpose of the lab is to pro-mote collaboration among Mumbai
Police, IT industry, academia and concerned citizens to address cyber crime and
its related issues. Also, to create information security infrastructure with the
help of these stakehol-ders, based on the ‘Hub and Spokes’ model to develop
cyber crime technology tools for criminal investigation.
Hexaware Technologies, Mastek, Onward Novell Software, Rediff dotcom and
Zenith have sponsored the lab while companies like Microsoft, Novell and Sify
are supporting it. AN Roy, Com-missioner, Mumbai Police who was present on the
occasion, said, "In today’s digital age, cyber crime is a reality and it
poses one of the most difficult challenges before the law enforcement
machinery". He added, "In-fact, in the coming three to four weeks, the
Mumbai Police is trying to create one interface for the public which will be
like a citizen faci-litation center at the Police commissioners office. Here
there will be on-line tracking of important issues like issue of license,
complaints filed etc concerned with the general public."
Others present on the occ-asion included Vijay Mukhi from NASSCOM, Harish
Mehta (Onward) and Shammi Kapoor (IUCL), among others.
