The average cost of rack space in carrier-neutral co-location facilities worldwide has increased to almost $ 1,000, according to the latest survey by Band-X Co-location. World rack prices have risen by over 30 percent since the company began monitoring prices in December 1999. Band-X's quarterly survey of postings on its co-location-trading floor included a significant number of prices from the Asia-Pacific for the first time this year.

These prices caused the world price average to jump by 12 percent: rack space in the Asia-Pacific region is twice as expensive than in Europe and 72 percent higher than the US. Previously, Band-X had seen the price of co-location rise fairly steadily worldwide.

"While we are now seeing more stable pricing across North America and Europe than we have in the past, the growing number of facilities in the Asia-Pacific region is having a significant impact on the average price worldwide," said Tim Anker, VP, Co-location trading at Band-X.

US price rises have outstripped those in Europe over the past 15 months, with a rack now costing an average of $ 150 more in US, according to Band-X Co-location, which operates the world's largest and busiest marketplace for carrier neutral co-location. However, European facilities are still around a third larger than in US and two-thirds larger than Asia-Pacific facilities.
