Accton Technology Corporation will offer US Robotics products in the Asia Pacific region including India. With this, the announcement in March 2000, that Accton is taking a majority stake in US based US Robotics, in alliance with NatSteel Electronics of Singapore and US based 3Com, has come into effect.

Accton along with its partners has created a new company-US Robotics Corporation (USRC). Accton will now handle all sales, marketing and customer support throughout Asia/Pacific for analog modem products. US Robotics Corporation will take over the analog portion of its product line, including Megahertz modem-only PC cards and Courier-brand modems.

These products will be marketed and sold throughout Asia Pacific by US Robotics account team managed by Accton. The Combo LAN and Modem products, in all form factors, will continue to be provided by 3Com after the separation.

The new company will develop its own corporate policies and strategies, as well as create and market new products. In turn, Accton will work closely with U.S. Robotics teams and will provide all order management and customer support, as well as, sales and marketing efforts.

"In regard to pricing, although U.S. Robotics and Accton will develop its own pricing structure, no anticipation of any material change to customer

pricing is expected. For the distributors, the orders will henceforth be placed at Accton instead of 3Com. Once the order is placed in the US Robotics management system, it will directly handle all supply chain management, product distribution and invoicing," said Charles Chen, MD, Accton Technology Corporation, Singapore.

He continued, "US Robotics has set up the sales and order management function as Accton has been found to have the most efficient and flexible way to ensure a smooth transition. Also, the same high levels of responsiveness and service, which has been enjoyed by distributors, will be the same".

"We have already started the process of transition and it is going smoothly. There will no changes in the SKU and UPC codes. It will remain the same. For technical support, USRC's team will manage the support sold to all modems" ,said Milind Kamat, Country Manager, India, Accton Technology Corporation.

In the future, Accton plans to establish offices in other cities such as Ahmedabad, Calcutta, Bangalore and Hyderabad and also aim to increase the number of partners.
