Om Prakash Singh, Minister for Irrigation, Public Works and higher education, has launched a website, www.omprakashsingh.com. Addressing the press conference after its launch, the minister hoped that the website, having all information about the Irrigation and the Public works, would create transparency and plug loopholes in the system.

Singh said that all universities in the state had been directed to launch their website, providing information on various facilities being offered to students by March-end next year. He said that the Allahabad and the Lucknow University would launch their website soon and the rest of the universities would complete the job by the end of March 2001.

Singh added that his main task was to provide a better information system and transparency to end corruption in the PWD and the Irrigation departments. He said that the irrigation department and the PWD would be fully computerized and connected with the divisional offices by the March-end and Rs 6 crore had been sanctioned to the PWD and Rs 4 crore to the irrigation department for this purpose.

The minister said that the website would have all information regarding cleaning of canals and other related works. In this particular work, the government received a lot of complaints. With the launch of the website, the accountability of engineers concerned will be ensured.

The information network of the Irrigation and the PWD would be made wider and comprehensive so that ministers, principal secretary and engineers could obtain relevant information by the click of the mouse.
