Ingram divides West into three parts
Wednesday, November 05, 2008

As part of its market strategy, Ingram Micro has further divided the Western region into three divisions from two. Mumbai, which was earlier a part of Maharashtra, has now been made into a separate division-West I. Rest of Maharashtra, Goa, and Chattisgarh will remain as West II, and Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh would remain as West III. The decision to add Mumbai as a new division was taken in July-August this year, informed K Jaishankar, MD, Ingram Micro. He said that the division was being done to enhance focus in the Western region.

"The primary reason for dividing West into three regions was to enhance the focus in the region. The addition of a new division would bring in more opportunities and business for Ingram Micro and enable us to further penetrate into the B-class towns," Jaishankar said.

He also said that by making Mumbai a separate region distributors would be able to increase their mindshare in the region. "Mumbai is a huge region and making it a separate division would enable us to increase the mindshare among partners and tap more business opportunities," he added.

Ingram Micro aims to penetrate more into the B-class towns and increase the partner base through this reorganization. Even though West has been divided into three regions since August, Jaishankar said that it would take sometime to increase the partner base and share the amount of business that happened in West since August.

He also informed that there has been no increase in the number of warehouses in the region since this reorganization. "We were already present in the states and have enough warehouses in those regions. We would just like to increase our penetration and add more partners to our base," Jaishankar claimed.

Cyrus Patel has taken charge as the Regional Head for West I. Headquartered in Pune, SK Mridul Saran has been appointed Regional Head for West II, and Mridul Chauhan remains the Regional Head for West III and will be operating out of Ahmedabad.

In the South, M Nandakurar, who was Senior Branch Manager in Chennai, has been promoted as Head for South II. He will be handling Karnataka and Kerala out of Bengaluru. Devender Rawat remains the South I Head, handling Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
